Day 3 or 4 of Carnival. Monday.
Yesterday Carnival was like the day before, bright colours, beautiful, happy, young people though a little more tired, dancing singing and blowing whistles, following the bloco round the praça and central streets.
Much more people in costume this day. Lots of babies, cave men and women, nuns and devils, witches and people with wicked looking costumes carrying fishing rods, dangling ugly looking worms just above the reach of the crowd.
In the bloco monsturous characters chased each other around the bloco van. Wicked people carrying bloody axes and shovels and accompanied by a suited body in a coffin.
I don't know what it all means but of all the lyrics that get repeated the only lines I learnt mean something like "pull it, pull it, pull it my friend and it gets bigger" and another one along the lines of, "do it with your left and do it with your right, something, something, something.
The important thing is its really easy to sing along and everyone knows how to and does join in.
