25th Feb '06. Saturday

On the TV last night were scenes of Sao Paulo where Carnival had clearly begun.

The coverage reminded me of the opening ceremonies of the Olympic Games.

Also last night, the traffic was really heavy in certain directions and greeting were even more frequent and friendly than seems usual.

But at 5am the alarm went off and Ricardo, is friend Fernando and I got up and the Carnival really started.

In a rush we left his block of flats and paced out way down the motorway, already (or still) heavy with traffic, playing guitar and singing. Well i wasn't to be honest, I even got told not to be sad.

After some sleep in a ride we caught to town my energy started to pick up and i found it easier and eaiser to join in.

As we took more and more buses we joined with more and more peeps who were heading to the same Carnival as us.

It seems like a festival set in a really beautiful mountainous countryside. Dancing in the streets had already begun in the little village hosting the party as we worked our way to one of the camping grounds.

The three of us, animated all the way, have met up with a group of girls but lost our tent.

There ae whisltes and colourful, funny hats, tincle, horns, greetings shouted to strangers, impromptue music and dancing/marching down the street. oo! and lots to drink.

I wonder what happens next.
